Genie was introduced to yoga at the age of 12 by her ballet teacher. Over the
years she has had the great fortune to study with Senior U.S. Viniyoga Master-Stan
Hafner. Her other teachers and mentors include: Zack Kurland, Jodi Komitor,
Patricia Williamson & Lex Gillan.
Genie studied Music & English Literature at Ithaca College. She studied
Child Development for seven years and worked with young children teaching "Creative
Workshops" which incorporated music, dance, drama & art. She is also
a singer/songwriter in a power-pop band in NYC.
Genie's musical backround and love for children led her to study with Jodi Komitor
and Next Generation Yoga. When Genie met Jodi everything clicked. Jodi's dynamic
vision and energy with Kids Yoga has inspired Genie to bring music and lots
of creativity & fun into her Kids Yoga classes.
Genie combines the basic traditions of yoga with her playful and creative musical
style. Her goal as a yoga teacher is for every child to be comfortable and empowered
in their body, to encourage the children to develop a solid sense of self, courage,
confidence, leadership skills, compassion, respect for the dignity of life and
inner-peace in their daily lives.
Genie has worked with NGY for 2 years. She received her adult yoga certification
from The Yoga Institute of Houston.
